Friday Soup & Mission Group

It has been a long, cold and sometimes lonely winter here in Chicago... but, here comes the sun (as the old song goes). So this coming Friday, May 20th, is Celebrate Summer Community Day at our home. I will host my monthly Friday Soup lunch gathering out on the front patio(weather cooperating!). Any of you near Logan Sq., please stop on by for a bowl of soup and some fun conversation with whomever shows up, 11:30- 1:30 at our Maplewood Ave location - call or send a note to rsvp!

Then, in the evening, we are having a barbeque at 6:30P for our Mission Group. What is Mission Group? Well, we have determined that we want to live and give back to our Logan Square neighborhood. So, we have a group of folks from the west side of Chicago gathering for study, fellowship and monthly outreach endeavors. We plan to walk down to the Urban Vineyard(2 blocks) and look at their new computer lab, where kids are lovingly nurtured in an after-school program. Our group has been working with this church to help build the lab for our neighborhood school children. Studying the book of James at church, we feel called to live love through both word and deed in our neighborhood. After our tour, we will have some tasty food and follow-up fellowship out on our back deck!

Obviously, I am hoping for good weather this coming Friday, May 20th, to host these events... it was a long, cold and sometime lonely winter! And, being real, I missed our So. California winter experiences big-time. I am happy to be back outside this Spring, gardening in the dirt and hanging out front with my neighbors... Please join us for lunch-time soup or an evening barbeque, if you are near our Chicago 'hood this coming Friday, May 20th, to Celebrate Summer Community... the door will be open!
